GULFPORT, Florida -- The 10 News Investigators have learned that Eckerd College?has dropped?plans to possibly dock two retired riverboats?on-campus and convert them into dorms.
"President Don Eastman and the college have decided not to pursue the riverboat dorm possibilities," said Eckerd spokesperson Alizza Punzalan in an e-mail.?
The 10 News Investigators?first asked about the feasibility of the plan in November, given strict federal guidelines governing overnight stays on large boats.?
At the time, the college said it was working with?the Coast Guard?and maritime attorneys on how to work within the federal regulations.
But in the end, the school will pursue other residence options.? Punzalan did not give a reason for dropping the riverboat plan.
